Harvey Hartness of Regina passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital on February 12, 2024 at 93 years of age with his loving wife at his side. Harvey grew up on the family farm near Readlyn, SK and attended high school in Milestone. He married the love of his life, Cecelia, in July 1962. They lived in Avonlea, Humboldt, Shaunavon and Central Butte, Saskatchewan where he was employed by the Saskatchewan Power Corporation for 38 years. In 1993 when he retired, they moved to Regina.
Harvey loved his family very much and never failed to let everyone know that. He was known for his big “Bear Hugs” and firm handshake with all of his “Greetings”, always remembering to whisper, “I love you”, in their presence. When his children and grandchildren were growing up, he attended all their games and activities when possible enjoying their success and achievements, meeting them after their game with his well- known “Toonie Handshake”, which they looked forward to.
After Harvey retired from SaskPower and still feeling full of energy, he took on many other tasks. Harvey was a committed member of the Maple Leaf Lions Club and volunteered for many community and church related activities. As a faithful parishioner of Holy Family Parish, he worked as the Custodian at the church. Being of service to others around him was very important to Harvey, so he fulfilled his role with total care, love, commitment and attention to details in support of the staff and other committees. During that time, he enjoyed relaxing with the senior group gatherings in the afternoons playing cards and socializing.
At the age of 73, Harvey decided to return to school and become a Commissionaire serving as a Security Guard in a number of locations until 2016 at the age of 85. He loved family gatherings, visiting with friends and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. In his leisure times, Harvey enjoyed travelling, camping, boating, reading, jigsaw puzzles, sports on TV and more recently, word puzzles. He was well known for his friendly smiles and cheerful attitude. His memory is forever etched in our hearts; his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. Harvey leaves to mourn his loving wife of 61 ½ years, Cecelia (Bielak); three children: Kelly, Linda Bernath (Kelly) and Collin (Lori); seven grandchildren: Jeffrey (Leslie), Tara, Ashley (Cordelle), Nathan, Brianna (Drew), Alexia (Nolan) and Zachary (Kelsey); great- grandchildren: Logan and Jett.
Harvey is survived by his sister, Mabel Wallis, sisters-in-law, Lynn Hartness and Aida Bielak along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Selena; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Bernice Bielak; siblings: Thomas (Emma), Leo, John (Anne), Joseph, Ethel Wilson, Lois (Wesley) Maynard, Maurice, Selena (Lloyd) Rodger and Alvin; brothers and sisters-in-law: George Wallis, Robert Bielak, Elmer and Julia Hauta and nephew, Rodney Hartness.
